Are you a nature enthusiast seeking a unique andbreathtaking destination for your next adventure? Look no further than the Cityof Rocks State Park in Faywood, New Mexico! We recently had the opportunity to visit City of Rocks StatePark, and we were blown away by its awe-inspiring beauty. From the moment Iarrived, I was captivated by the otherworldly rock formations that rise up fromthe desert floor like a city of ancient skyscrapers, hence the name "Cityof Rocks." The park is located in Faywood, a small community in southwesternNew Mexico, and is easily accessible by car and less than 1 hour from SilverCity, NM.

One of the first things that struck me about City ofRocks State Park was the unique geology of the area. The park is known for itsextraordinary volcanic rock formations, which were created over 34 millionyears ago by a series of volcanic eruptions and subsequent erosion. Theseincredible rock formations, made of welded volcanic ash and tuff, have beenshaped by wind and water into a maze of towering spires, arches, and pinnaclesthat are a sight to behold.

One of the best ways to explore the park is by hiking itsnumerous trails. The park offers trails for different skill levels, rangingfrom easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The trails wind their way throughthe fascinating rock formations, offering breathtaking panoramic views of thesurrounding desert landscape. As I hiked through the park, I was in awe of theintricate and unique shapes of the rocks, which seemed to defy gravity withtheir precarious balance and stunning formations.

If you are able, we would recommend camping at City of RocksState Park. The park offers 35 online reservable, and many first come firstserved, designated camping areas with modern amenities, including cleanrestrooms, showers, and picnic areas. We explored this area as a scoutingmission for our big rig and were pleasantly surprised to see a few large siteswith water and electricity. We will be excited to return and immerse ourselves inthe park. Visitors report witnessing a mesmerizing display of colors andshadows at sunset and a night sky for killer stargazing.

The park is home to a diverse array of flora andfauna, including junipers, yuccas, jackrabbits, roadrunners, and even theelusive mountain lion. It's a haven for nature enthusiasts and photographersalike, offering endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.
